🌿 Saying Goodbye: End-of-Life Care for Pets
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
A gentle note before you read:
The following information discusses end-of-life care for pets. It may be upsetting to read. If you are not ready, please feel free to scroll past this section and return to it when the time feels right.
🐾 Our Commitment to You and Your Pet
At The Vets Sale, we understand that saying goodbye to a beloved companion is one of the hardest moments in a family’s life. We want you to know you will not face this alone. Our team is here to provide compassionate support, gentle guidance, and the utmost respect for both you and your pet during this difficult time.
Every pet and every family is different. We will walk beside you, honouring your wishes, and ensuring your pet’s comfort and dignity at every step.
🌸 What to Expect During an End-of-Life Appointment
We aim to make the process as calm and supportive as possible.
1. Preparation
- When you arrive, we will first confirm your details, review your pet’s records, and provide you with a consent form.
- To ease the process later, we kindly take care of payment at this stage. This helps you avoid facing paperwork and financial matters in a time of grief.
2. The Procedure
- Your veterinarian will sit with you and explain how the procedure will be carried out. Every patient is unique, and we will take the time to answer your questions.
- In certain cases, a gentle sedative may be given to help them relax. A caring nurse will assist the vet in placing a small catheter, which ensures a smooth and painless process.
- You are welcome to stay with your pet, holding them close, and offering love and comfort in their final moments.
3. Saying Goodbye
- After the procedure, you are invited to spend as much time as you need with your pet. Many families choose to cuddle, whisper words of love, or simply sit quietly together.
- Please know there is no rush — this time belongs to you and your pet.
🌿 Aftercare & Memorial Options
We understand that how you choose to honour your pet is deeply personal. Our team will gently guide you through the available options:
- Cremation with ashes returned – If you wish, our team can help you arrange cremation services through a trusted local crematorium, with your pet’s ashes returned in a respectful vessel.
- Cremation without ashes returned – For families who do not wish to keep ashes, communal cremation is available.
- Home burial – In some cases, families choose to bury their pet at home (please check local council regulations).
Please discuss these options with our veterinary nurses ahead of time if possible, so arrangements can be made in advance.
🏡 Home Euthanasia (Limited Availability)
We understand that some families wish for their pet’s final moments to be at home, in familiar surroundings. At present, our ability to provide home euthanasia is limited due to staffing.
- Home visits are available on nominated days only.
- Priority is given to our existing clients.
- Please call the clinic directly to check availability and to discuss whether we can attend.
💚 You Are Not Alone
Grief is a natural and powerful response to losing a beloved pet. If you need extra support, we can recommend resources and pet loss support services. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our team — we are here to support you before, during, and after your pet’s passing.
🌸 A Final Word
At The Vets Sale, we believe that love is the greatest gift we can give our pets, and letting them go with peace and dignity is part of that love. We will walk with you through this journey with compassion, respect, and kindness.
