Caring for Our Native Wildlife
Caring for Our Native Wildlife
Australiaβs wildlife is incredibly special β and incredibly vulnerable.
At The Vets Sale & Loch Sport, caring for animals extends beyond our domestic patients. Supporting local wildlife is an important part of our commitment to the Gippsland community.
Over many years working in veterinary practice, Nathalie has seen firsthand how storms, bushfires, vehicle injuries, and seasonal pressures can leave native animals orphaned, injured, and in urgent need of help. During peak times, many wildlife carers in our region reach full capacity, and some animals have limited options for rehabilitation.
Through her experience in veterinary nursing, access to clinical resources, and dedicated rehabilitation space, she is able to provide care to selected native animals during times when additional support is needed. All rehabilitation is undertaken in accordance with Victorian wildlife care guidelines, and each animal is carefully assessed to ensure welfare and suitability for release.
Wildlife rehabilitation is quiet, patient work. It involves warmth through the night, careful wound care, gentle feeding, and creating a safe environment where frightened animals can regain their strength. It also requires thoughtful, welfare-based decision-making in collaboration with experienced carers and veterinary professionals.
Our goal is always to provide compassionate, responsible care and, where appropriate, to give native animals the opportunity to return to the wild where they belong.
We are proud to contribute to the protection of our local wildlife and to work alongside the broader wildlife care network in our region.
If you find injured wildlife, please call us so we can help.
